Buchan is an area steeped in history. Aden house is located in the ancient village of Old Deer, which is the location of Old Deer Abbey - the monastery where the Book of Deer was produced. There are numerous castles on the "castle trail", and within easy travelling distance is the "whisky trail", which travels the many whisky distilleries in the North of Scotland. Within a very short distance there are pubs, fishing, and golfing.

Local amenities at Mintlaw are petrol, chemist, doctor, dentist, post office and convenience stores etc. It is approx. 10 miles to larger towns such as Fraserburgh and Peterhead, whilst the city of Aberdeen is a mere 30 miles away by decent roads.
